Security Policy

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is committed to working with you to protect your accounts and personal information on Thrivent.com.

We have implemented many security and privacy features and employ several full-time information security and privacy professionals to protect your information, but you play an important role in these protection efforts. If you engage in unsafe personal computing practices, you are putting your own personal information at risk and Thrivent's security and privacy measures cannot fully protect you.

Information Security Protection

We are dedicated to keeping your personal information secure and confidential. Your personal information is stored in a database on our internal network behind a secure firewall that protects against unauthorized access from a public network, like the internet.

In addition, we use special software to detect any unauthorized attempts to access our internal network through the firewall. Should such an attempt be made, an alert is sent to our monitoring service (24 hours per day, 365 days per year) for follow-up. If the alert is not a "false alarm," we can quickly activate our specially-trained security incident response team to deal with the situation. Our website also uses state-of-the-art anti-virus software to protect your information from being altered or "infected" by a virus or other "malware."

On Thrivent.com, "MyThrivent" is designed for handling sensitive and confidential information. These pages utilize a well-known encryption method called Secure Socket Layer (SSL). With SSL engaged, pages are sent to you over an encrypted communication channel, and any information you submit to Thrivent Financial is transmitted over this same channel. This method of transmitting sensitive data is considered the industry standard for communicating over the internet.

However, in order for it to work, you need to make sure that your browser's SSL features are turned on. Internet Explorer, Netscape and Mozilla Firefox are three browsers that support SSL encryption techniques. You can easily tell when SSL is enabled and protecting the transmission of information between your computer and our website by looking for a solid key image in the lower right corner of your screen or a solid padlock image near your address bar. If you are not sure if your browser is SSL compatible, check with the software vendor.

Thrivent.com uses VeriSign services to protect confidential information.

Privacy Protection

Thrivent Financial protects the information you share with us. This commitment to conduct business honestly and with your best interest in mind is the foundation of our privacy promise to you.

Read the Thrivent Financial Internet Privacy Policy.

Tips for Keeping Your Information Secure

  • Review your accounts regularly. Review your accounts at least once a month.
  • Notify the company immediately of any unauthorized account activity.
  • Protect your user ID and password. Never store your user ID and password in your browser or tell your browser to "remember my password," as malicious programs can find and transmit them to third parties.
  • Never give your user ID and password to anyone, including your family or friends.
  • Never enter your user ID and password anywhere other than on Thrivent.com.
  • Change your online password regularly—we recommend at least every 60 days.
  • Protect your computer. Ensure that any computer you use to access Thrivent.com has the most current anti-spyware, anti-spam, anti-virus and firewall software, and that such software is regularly run and updated.
  • Keep your browser up-to-date. Always use an up-to-date, supported browser with at least 128-bit SSL encryption.
  • Keep your operating system up to date. Check for the latest security updates for your operating system from the operating system vendor.
  • Do not reply to unsolicited email requests for personal or financial information. Do not click on a link within an email if you suspect the message might not be legitimate.
  • Thrivent Financial and our affiliates will never ask you to provide or confirm your personal information, account numbers or passwords in an email. Never respond to an email (especially unsolicited email) which asks for this personal or account information.
  • Log out of Thrivent.com and close your browser when you are finished. Closing the browser will clear the session memory. Do not leave your computer unattended while logged in to Thrivent.com. You may also want to delete the temporary internet files from your browser occasionally.
