Frederick (Fred) G. Kraegel, Henrico, VA, has been a member of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Board of Directors since August 2008. He serves as a member of the Audit and Investment Committees of the board.
A certified public accountant (CPA), Kraegel brings more than 35 years of strategic, financial and operational experience to the Thrivent Financial board.
Kraegel serves as a senior director with Bridge Associates, LLC. Since 2003, he has been a financial consultant serving a wide range of companies that are experiencing financial difficulties, often involving formal bankrupty court proceedings. In this capacity, he has assisted businesses with numerous complex financial and operational issues.
From 1987 to 2003 he served as president, chief financial officer or in other senior management positions for companies ranging in size from $150 million to $8 billion in annual revenue. Kraegel is the former senior vice president and chief financial officer of Best Products Co., Inc., and executive vice president of Finance and MIS for P.A.Bergner & Co.(now Carson Pirie Scott & Co.). He joined Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG LLP) in 1971 and was a partner from 1980 through 1987.
Kraegel serves as chairman of the Valparaiso University board of directors. He also serves as a member of the board for Concordia Plan Services, Inc., and is a trustee for its various benefit plans. He was recently named to the board of directors of Lutheran Services in America.
Kraegel and his wife, Karen, are the parents of two adult children and have two grandchildren. They are members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richmond.
