Dr. Kurt Senske (Sen-ski), Austin, Texas, leads the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Board of Directors as chair of the board. Senske has served on the Thrivent Financial Board of Directors and its predecessors since 1999.

Senske is CEO of Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc., a multi-faceted social service agency with an annual operating budget of more than $100 million. During his tenure at LSSS, he has been responsible for more than tripling the size of the agency and steering the once-troubled agency back to financial stability.

Senske completed his undergraduate work at Concordia University at Austin and Valparaiso University in Indiana with a B.S. degree in business administration. He holds a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, a master's degree in international relations from Shiller International University in Paris, France, and a Ph.D. in government from the University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to working at LSSS, Senske served as assistant to the president at Concordia University at Austin. He also practiced law in Chicago at several law firms, including the firm of Hinshaw, Culbertson, Moelmann, Hoban and Fuller. In addition, he worked as a political consultant and senior staff member for candidates and government leaders at the local, state, and national levels.

Senske was a member of the Executive Committee of the board of directors of Lutheran Brotherhood and served as chair of the Lutheran Brotherhood Foundation. He serves on the board of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and on the board of Lutheran Services in America.

He is the author of two books, Executive Values: A Christian Approach to Organizational Leadership and Personal Values: God's Game Plan for Life. A third book, Live a Life of Significance, is scheduled to be released in late 2010. Senske has also been a guest columnist on a variety of issues for newspapers and magazines.

Senske and his wife, Laurie, and their daughter, Sydney, live in Austin, Texas, and are active members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin.
