Q: I don't live in Minnesota or Wisconsin. How can I do my banking with Thrivent Financial Bank?
A: You can bank with Thrivent Financial Bank no matter where you live. Services like distance banking by phone and online banking give you access to our banking services whenever and wherever it's convenient for you.
Q: What about paying bills online? Can I do that with Thrivent Financial Bank?
A: Absolutely! With our Online Bill Payment service, you have instant access to your money. You can pay bills, make a loan or credit card payment. You can elect to have payments made when you indicate or pay the bill automatically each month. It's all just a click away.
Q: I'm worried about online security. How is my account information protected when I bank online?
A: We use VeriSign security software, an industry leader in website identification and encryption. VeriSign uses 128-bit encryption to scramble personal information, which stays scrambled while traveling over the Internet. VeriSign uses secure server software, the industry standard and among the best software available for secure commerce transactions. You also have the ability to change your password and are encouraged to do so often.
Q: What if I need cash? How does that work without having a local bank?
A: As long as you have a checking account with us, it's very easy for you to get cash. We provide you with a debit card that you can use to obtain cash at a local ATM – whenever you need it. Clients who maintain a Thrivent Rewards Checking Account are entitled to unlimited free ATM withdrawals from any ATM in the United States and the world. If you like, we also can wire or electronically transfer the money you request to a local financial institution of your choice.

Q: Do I have to do my banking during regular business hours?
A: Services of Thrivent Financial Bank are built around you and your needs. Our online banking services and automated phone banking programs are available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Q: What if I need immediate information on my accounts?
A: That's the beauty of our online banking service. You can look up your account information online using your customer number and password-whenever it's convenient for you. Or, if you choose, you can call one of our helpful customer service representatives to assist you. Automated bank by phone is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Q: Will my checks look like out-of-state checks? Most stores in my town won't accept out-of-state checks.
A: Your checks will have the same personal information as local checks you may be using now. They also will feature the Thrivent Financial Bank logo, including our website address.
Q: How can I transfer funds from my Thrivent Financial Bank to my local bank?
A: You can transfer funds to an external institution from online banking at any time, or you can call one of our customer service representatives toll-free at (866) 226-5225 during business hours.
Q: I like the feeling of getting to know my bank and having the tellers know me by name. Distance banking sounds impersonal. Do I ever get to talk to a real person?
A: Absolutely! Our customer service representatives specialize in offering personal service. You can talk to one of our representatives by calling toll-free at 866-226-5225.
Q: What is Thrivent Financial Bank's routing number?

Bank Soundness and Security

Q: How is Thrivent Financial Bank positioned to care for our deposits?
A: Very well. The banking industry is highly regulated to help reduce the level of risk to customers. Thrivent Financial Bank is subject to these regulations and your deposits are also FDIC insured, subject to FDIC insurance limits. You can feel good about working with a bank that is strong, solvent and well-capitalized. We take the principle of stewardship to heart.

Thrivent Financial Bank didn't follow the market into the high-risk lending business, so we haven't had to make many changes in our lending practices. As a result, the bank's liquidity is good. Thrivent Financial Bank is highly regulated by the OCC who closely monitors our financial results. Our core capital ratio is well over what the OCC considers well capitalized.

Thrivent Financial Bank is also a subsidiary1 of a fortune 500 organization which is highly rated by AM Best.

Q: I'm confused about FDIC insurance. How much of my deposits are covered?
A: Thrivent Financial Bank is a member of FDIC (the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation). The basic insurance amount is $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank. Deposits maintained in different categories of legal ownership at the same bank can be separately insured. Therefore, it is possible to have deposits of more than $250,000 at one insured bank and still be fully insured.

FDIC exists to preserve and promote public confidence in the U.S. financial system by insuring deposits.  Since the start of FDIC in 1934, no depositor has lost a single cent of insured funds as a result of a bank failure. Learn more about FDIC insurance coverage.

Q: What if there is a bank failure?
A: Customers' deposits are protected. Not one penny of insured savings has ever been lost by a customer of a federally insured bank. Deposits are insured by the FDIC for up to $250,000 per depositor per insured bank. Deposits maintained in different categories of legal ownership at the same bank can be separately insured. Therefore, it is possible to have deposits of more than $250,000 at one insured bank and still be fully insured.
Q: Who regulates banks?
A: That depends on the bank's charter. There are four federal regulators – the Federal Reserve Board; the Comptroller of the Currency; the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The FDIC also insures deposits in its member banks up to $250,000 per depositor per insured bank. That insurance applies to accounts in FDIC member banks that are commercial banks, thrifts and savings banks.

Simply Giving Transition FAQs

Q: Why did the Simply Giving Program transition?
A: As a not-for-profit membership organization, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is always looking for ways to better serve our members. Currently only a small portion of our membership takes advantage of this program, so Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will be looking to spend its resources in areas that impact a larger member audience. However, Thrivent Financial recognizes that an automated giving program can increase the convenience and consistency of giving to Lutheran institutions. That's why a new version of Simply Giving will continue, administered by Thrivent Financial Bank. The program is well-aligned with the goals and operations of the bank.
Q: When was the Simply Giving Program transitioned?
A: The new Simply Giving® Program endorsed by Thrivent Financial Bank began January 1, 2010 and now available for new institutions interested in automated giving.
Q: What changes were made when the Simply Giving program transitioned to Thrivent Financial Bank?
A: A cost for the program was added. To make the program economically sustainable, there is a charge to institutions. The program is well-aligned with the goals and operations of the bank and its plans to offer a service package for institutions.
Q: Who can I contact if I have more questions?
A: For more information about Simply Giving® by Thrivent Financial Bank please call Vanco Services at 800-774-9355.
