Financial Assistance Benefits

Note: At this time, financial assistance benefits are available only to Thrivent Financial benefit members.
Uninsurable Child Life Insurance Benefit
An eligible child who is under the age of 16 (birth through age 15) and is uninsurable has the opportunity to have life insurance coverage through this benefit of membership in Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
To be eligible, the child must have at least one parent, legal guardian, grandparent or great-grandparent who is a current Thrivent Financial benefit member and must have been a benefit member for at least 60 days prior to the application for the Uninsurable Child Life Insurance Benefit being submitted. A benefit member generally is a member who owns an insurance product or an annuity from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
To apply for this benefit:
- Contact a Thrivent Financial representative.
- The financial representative and parent(s) must complete an application for life insurance, providing a complete health history of the child.
Newborn Death Benefit
Eligible benefit members whose baby is born alive but dies within 60 days can receive a charitable grant of $5,000 to help with the burden of final medical or funeral costs, counseling, a memorial or other related expenses. The benefit is honored for up to two years after the loss occurs.
At least one parent must be a Thrivent Financial benefit member and must have been a benefit member for at least 60 days before the birth of the child.

Legacy Support for Orphan Children
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans offers the Legacy Support for Orphan Children benefit to orphaned children of Thrivent Financial benefit members. Eligible orphaned children receive a grant of $100 per month until age 19.
The monthly grant continues when the child is enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary undergraduate educational organization with a regular faculty and curriculum, and a regularly enrolled body of students. In addition, the orphan is eligible for the Legacy Support for Orphan Children Educational Grant to help pay for academic expenses. The amount of this educational grant is based on financial need, which is determined by the school's financial aid office. The minimum amount is $1,500 per year, up to a total maximum of $6,000 over a four-year period until the child turns age 23. This educational grant is to be used only for tuition or related academic expenses, including fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction.
For the child to be eligible for the Legacy Support for Orphan Children Benefit, all of the following must apply. The orphaned child:
- Must be less than 19 years of age or not yet graduated from high school at the time of becoming an orphan.
- Must have a qualified connection to an insurance or annuity product of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans at the time of becoming an orphan.
- Must have lost both parents, one of whom was a Thrivent Financial benefit member at the time of death, or have lost the single parent who was the child's sole custodian and was a Thrivent Financial benefit member at the time of death.

The benefit ceases when the orphan does any one of the following:
- Reaches age 19 (or age 23 if enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or vocational/technical school).
- Graduates from high school and does not enroll as a full-time student in an accredited institution of post-secondary undergraduate education.
- No longer attends school full time (for reasons other than a disabling illness).
- Marries.
- Enters the military service.
- No longer has a qualified connection as determined by Thrivent Financial, to an insurance or annuity product of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
The Uninsurable Child Life Insurance Benefit, Newborn Death Benefit, and Legacy Support for Orphan Children Benefit are not guaranteed contractual benefits. The interpretation of the provisions of these programs is solely the responsibility of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. These programs are reviewed and evaluated regularly. Thrivent Financial reserves the right to change, modify, or discontinue the Uninsurable Child Life Insurance Benefit, Newborn Death Benefit, and/or Legacy Support for Orphan Children Benefit or any part of them, at any time.
Qualified Connection
For benefit membership purposes, an individual is considered to have a qualified connection to a Thrivent Financial insurance or annuity product if they have a product relationship such as being an insured, annuitant/joint annuitant, covered spouse, covered child, applicant, owner, payee/joint payee or other relationships as approved by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
