What the first thing you do when planning a vacation? You PLAN it! Some people pick a destination, book a room there and pack their carry-on with the fewest number of items possible. Some people study travel guides, become BFFs with Fodors.com and debate the pros and cons of one discount travel site over another. Most of us fall in the middle somewhere: we shop for a pretty good deal on transportation, hope to not end up in a cheesy motel and plan to sign up for a tour or three once we reach our destination.
The bottom line, though? We think about it. We plan.
Why is it that the same people who will take months to plan a one-week getaway don't give the time of day to their retirement planning? It's likely a combination of fear, intimidation and good ol' procrastination.
Whether you are five years or 20 from the gold watch, there is time and you can do it. You can retire, but only you can make it happen. And it all starts with planning. We have a workshop to get you started. Attend "My Retirement Matters" to gain confidence and clarify your vision for how you want your retirement to be. Review retirement trends and consider what your income and expenses may be. Most important, identify action steps you can take now to make your retirement happen.
Take Action Tip for Today
Still skeptical? Do yourself a favor and take an afternoon to dream about retirement. What do you see? Will you work, start a new business, travel, take care of your grandkids, go back to school? Dare to have these dreams. After you see how achievable your retirement goals can be, you'll still have plenty of time to plan that next vacation. In the meantime, review our workshop descriptions on a range of topics or find a workshop in your area.
