Medicare Supplement Insurance FAQs
Open AllClose All- Q: Do I need to file a claim with Thrivent Financial?
- A: No. In most cases, claims for both Part A and Part B Medicare supplement insurance benefits are filed electronically with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Health care providers need to file the claim with Medicare, which in turn files an electronic claim with Thrivent Financial.
However, if you do not receive notification from Thrivent Financial within three weeks of your receipt of an Explanation of Medicare Benefits (EOMB), submit a billing statement and the corresponding Medicare Summary Notice to Thrivent Financial. Be sure to include your Thrivent Financial insurance contract number on all correspondence to avoid unnecessary delays.
- Q: How do I file a claim with Thrivent Financial?
- A: Show your Medicare supplement identification card to your health care provider. Your provider will notify Medicare that you have Thrivent Financial Medicare Supplement Insurance coverage. After Medicare has processed your claim, Medicare will file it electronically with Thrivent Financial.
- Q: Do I need to complete any claim forms?
- A: No. In most cases claims are received directly from Medicare Part A and B with all the information that is needed to process them. If additional information is needed, we will contact either you or your health care provider directly.
- Q: Is there a time limit for filing a claim?
- A: Claims should be filed as soon as reasonably possible. In most states, claims must be filed within one year from the time proof of loss is required, unless you are legally incapacitated.
- Q: Do my hospital stays need to be pre-certified?
- A: No. Thrivent Financial Medicare Supplement Insurance contracts do not require pre-certification for inpatient hospital stays.
- Q: What information will I receive when Thrivent Financial processes a claim?
- A: You will receive a Claim Payment Summary with each payment. The summary identifies the provider, the date and description of service, the total charge, the Medicare-approved amount, and the amount paid by your Thrivent Financial Medicare Supplement Insurance contract. An explanation will be provided for any expenses not covered by your contract.
All claim payments are issued to you, the insured, unless you authorize Thrivent Financial to pay your health care provider directly. Either way, you will receive a Claim Payment Summary.
- Q: How will Thrivent Financial Prescription Drug Discount Program enhance the value of my Medicare supplement insurance?
- A: Thrivent Financial has contracted with Express Scripts Inc, a national company that provides top-quality pharmacy management services. By combining the purchasing power of more than 26 million network participants, Express Scripts has negotiated preferred pricing for many prescription medications.
Whether you have prescription drug coverage under your Thrivent Financial Medicare Supplement Insurance contract or not, Thrivent Financial Prescription Drug Discount Program is an additional benefit for you.
Note: Express Scripts is not Medicare Part D coverage.
Simply present your Thrivent Financial Prescription Drug card at any of the 53,000 Express Scripts participating pharmacies, and you will receive a preferred price on many of your prescription medications. If your Thrivent Financial Medicare Supplement Insurance contract covers prescription drugs and you present your Thrivent Financial Prescription Drug Card at a participating pharmacy, your claim will be filed electronically from Express Scripts to Thrivent Financial. If your contract covers prescription drugs and you do not have an Express Scripts participating pharmacy near you, you can submit your prescription drug claims directly to Thrivent Financial.
- Q: How does Thrivent Financial’s Prescription Drug Discount program work with the Medicare prescription drug benefit?
- A: If the Medicare prescription drug benefit does not cover your drug, you may use your Thrivent Financial Prescription Drug Card to request a preferred price. Note: you will be able to use only one prescription drug card for each drug purchase.
