Chapter name — proper use
When referring to our organization, it is best to use “Thrivent Financial
for Lutherans” on first reference. In later references, you can use “Thrivent
Financial.” Generally speaking, it is not appropriate to use “Thrivent” by
itself.
However, when referring to chapters in communications, please do not directly
precede the word “chapter” with the word “Financial,” as in, “Your Thrivent
Financial chapter will hold a fund-raising dinner.”
The concern is that “Thrivent Financial chapter” may give the impression
that financial services are provided by the chapter as a “financial chapter.”
This misunderstanding could result in misdirected inquiries to chapter leaders
about insurance or mutual funds and lead to other unwanted solicitations and
situations for chapters.
A preferred alternative is to simply state “[your chapter name] of Thrivent
Financial for Lutherans.” It also is permissible to use “Thrivent” alone,
such as, “Four Thrivent chapters will work together to host the activity.”
